The Foundation for Hospital Art
The Process - Technical Information

Paint

The Foundation uses only high quality artist's acrylic that is non-toxic and does not have an odor. Click here for detailed paint information.

Multiple-Canvas-Paintings

Dimensions
Vertically oriented designs measure 4' 1" high by 4' 8" wide.

Horizontally oriented designs measure 3' 1" high by 6 feet 2" wide.

All canvases measure 18" by 24", regardless of directional orientation.

Hanging Instructions
Each canvas in a multiple-canvas-painting is designed to hang one inch apart from each other on the wall.
Click here for detailed Hanging Instructions.

Instructions for Setting Up an "Ideal Paint Station"
Place two 8' by 2 & 1/2' tables long sides together (this is a standard table size) to form an 8' by 5' table surface.

This is the best way to hold one multiple-canvas-painting (6 canvases, in either directional orientation) and the necessary art supplies. It enables painters to see how the canvases will hang together on the wall.

Ten to twelve painters can work comfortably around one Paint Station this size. Chairs are optional, but definitely preferred by painters.

Please confirm any table substitutions with the Foundation ahead of time. No round tables please.

Ceiling Tiles

Ceiling tiles are fragile and difficult to transport, so they are only painting in the hospital setting. Each hospital has different ceiling tiles. The designs are drawn on the hospital's extra ceiling tiles or the hospital orders extra tiles for the PaintFest. The hospital's engineering department can switch out the colorful tiles for blank ones at times that will not disturb patients.

Wall Murals

Once on site, Foundation artists will do a walk-through with hospital decision makers to determine where wall murals should be placed. The murals are drawn and color-coded during a prep day. The murals are painted and touched-up during the PaintFest to create a high quality finished product.

"What a sensational event! The entire two-day happening occurred without a hitch. The organization and facilitation was flawless. Everyone at Hasbro Children's Hospital is delighted with the wonderful results."
